People seek therapy at different points in their lives and for many unique reasons. You may be feeling stressed, overwhelmed, bored, anxious, angry, sad or stuck. You may be struggling with relationships or family dynamics - old or new. Perhaps you are facing challenging realities outside of your control, or coping with loss or bereavement. It can be physical or mental health issues that bring you to therapy.
Counselling and psychotherapy is effective in supporting you if you wish to work through challenging or confusing experiences in your life, or make sense of your own behavior patterns and gain more clarity and new perspectives around how you wish to respond in your life going forwards.
I have a Masters of Science in Psychotherapy from Brighton University and I work with several models of humanistic therapy, including person-centered, existential, phenomenological, gestalt and transactional analysis. These overlap and are just theories, which come secondary to my priority of building an honest and genuine connection together, where you will hopefully feel comfortable to talk with me. I aim to ensure that you feel safe to explore anything you wish. I am here to really listen to you, in confidence and with complete acceptance, and work together with you to understand where you are and what you need.
"You didn't come into this world. You came out of it, like a wave from the ocean, you are not a stranger here."
Alan Watts
Individual Therapy
How does it work?
I offer short-term, goal-orientated counselling to work through current challenges you are facing. I also offer longer term psychotherapy for a deeper exploration of your personal patterns, in terms of how you might be relating to yourself, others and the world. You decide how long you wish to continue therapy for, and this is something we will review regularly together.
Humanistic Therapy is based on a position that we are all already 'whole' and essentially 'OK', although we may not always feel this way. Therapy can help heighten awareness of how our experiences in life and relationships, up until now, may still present in the here and now - and how these experiences may be affecting our current thoughts, feelings, actions and health, in ways that may not be best serving us anymore.
'Much of what we call personality is not a fixed set of traits, only coping mechanisms a person acquired in childhood' - Dr Gabor Mate
Therapy is a space in which you might make sense of your experiences and release what is no longer helpful to you. It is a chance to consider what is important to you and how you want to be, within your current circumstances. It is an opportunity to take responsibility and be intentional based what matters to you. It offers an opportunity to better understand and integrate your true nature and I would be privileged to accompany you on this part of your journey.
